Accessing MX200 percussion and special effects

At one time, I had the Wood Block set on a piston and somehow erase it. When I tried to reset it, I couldn't figure out how. The manual did not show all three parameters (PCM, MSB and LSB). I think there was no PCM.
What can I do to access and save that group of stops?

577 Technology

I was just browsing around on the topics, etc. and it made me wonder what technology is used on the Insignia 577?.

I own one and really like it as a practice organ, but play a T928 every Sunday. There IS a difference in the sound but the 577 is impressive. So I was wondering what the technology is behind the Insignia 577. Could I get a brief overview.

Would like to trade up to a Trillium someday.

Thanks

Favorite MX-200 voice combinations

I am setting up one memory level of our church organ for the use of the keyboard players in the youth band. I have set up strings with piano on the Choir manual, the same sounds on the Great manual but with automatic pedal and melody, and solo voices on the Swell (flute, oboe, clarinet, etc.).

Any suggestions besides strings with piano for accompaniments?

Other favorite solo voices?

Other suggestions?

577 technology

Hi Steve,

The Insignia 577 firmware and software is based on a proprietary sampling technology from Roland Europe (RES). The biggest tchnological difference would be the fact that this platform does not use Rodgers Parallel Digital Imaging (PDI). PDI has substantially more digital signal processing (DSP) as well as dimensional sound modeling for a more refined and realistic pipe-like sound.

Playing midi files with Rodgers 908 and MX-200

I have the above configuration at my church. My question is what is the simplest way to play midi files through the organ? Do I need a laptop with appropriate software and connect with midi cables? Is there any way to connect through the usb port in the MX-200? If I copy midi files to a smart media card could I play them using that card?

I want to play the organ live with midi orchestrations playing from the file.

Thanks for any assistance.

MIDI files

Hi Ken,

The easiest and most reliable way to play SMF would be a laptop (or netbook) with the appropriate software (Sonar Home Studio 7 by Cakawalk). Besides the MIDI cables you will also need a MIDI interface such as a Roland UM-1EX. You can order this from your local Rodgers dealer of find it online.

Insignia/Allegiant Demo CD's

Roy:
How could I obtain a copy of both the Insignia and Allegiant Series demo CD's? I am considering the Insignia 548 series organ for my home.

Thanks for your help with this matter.

Rodgers Trillium Masterpiece 928TE

I heard rumors of a new Trillium Masterpiece 928TE being released soon. Does anyone have specifications on this?

New 928TE

Rumors are often just that...rumors. You may want to check your source. I sit on the Rodgers Product Concept/Delevopment Board and have no knowledge of this whatsoever. And I haven't missed any meetings.

Connecting Hauptwerk Software to Rodgers Organ

Dear Organ Friends.

I have a Rodgers Trillium 837 and recently purchased the Hauptwerk software for my MacBook. I would like to connect the software to my Rodgers organ, but I am having a difficult time doing so. Does anyone have any information that might help me get this to work? The software works perfectly on my computer, but I can't get any sound once I connect the organ and computer together!

Please contact me on this website!

Thank You!

Connecting Hauptwerk

Greeting,

Hauptwerk works very well with Rodgers organs. Most of the time, all you have to do is the following:

1) Connect the midi out or thru of your organ to the midi input of your laptop.
2) Connect the audio output of your computers sound card to the audio input of your organ (or some external system like a home theater system).
3) Load Hauptwerk and the default St. Annes organ.
4) Click on the menu item "General Settings" followed by "Keyboard midi inputs". On that screen set the Great to midi channel 1, the sw to midi channel 2, and the pedal to midi channel 3 (or whatever midi channels your organ transmits on for those divisions.
5) Press the midi couplers on your Rodgers organ.
6) Select stops on the St. Annes using your mouse.
7) Play away!

If you find the volume between the Rodgers and Hauptwerk organs are not in balance, then select the menu item "Organ Settings" followed by "General Settings". You will see a control to bump up the DB level of the sound on that page.

If you find there is a letency (time between keypress and start of sound) problem, then go into "General Setting" followed by "Audio Settings" -- something like that, and select a smaller buffer size. That way Hauptwerk and your Rodgers will speak at the same time.

With my 835a organ, I have my MX-200 and Hauptwerk audio going in to my 1000 watt home theater system. So, with the Rodgers organ on tutti, the St. Annes organ on Tutti and with stops selected on the MX-200, I can get quite a glorious sound. Also, with Hauptwerk, I can now play Arp Schnitger, Skinner, Silberman, Cavaille-coll and others. It has been great fun. We just had a long discussion on Hauptwerk on the Rodgers Organ Group (FROG).

c.1967 Rogers 33E Theatre Organ

I need to find out which stop tab mechanism was used when Rogers built my 33E 1967 Theatre Organ - I need to replace some and must get the correct ones to ensure that they match the existing, so that the angle at which they work matches! - I believe a company called syndymes make these stop tab mechanisms.

PLEASE please, could somebody help me with this?

Many thanks,

No volume control on PR-300S

When playing recordings we've made, the volume it was recorded with is the volume it will play back with, and the volume control on the PR-300S has no effect. However, on the sample music provided/purchased the volume control functions as expected during playback. Is there something we can do when recording music to enable volume control during playback?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide,
Bob

Volume on PR-300S

Hi Bob,

The volume slider on the PR-300 affects ONLY the orchestral sounds. Ergo, if they recorded only organ sounds, the slider has 'no effect on level' - ergo, to 'enable' volume control, move the expression shoes on the organ during the record process, which will affect organ and orchestral levels. Use the volume slider to set the balance between orchestral parts and organ parts (usually left at about the 1/2 way point, and orchestral levels are set by the volume level setting for each MIDI Coupler).

DSG-108 Digital Stop Generator

Robert McMenis
808 @ church

This Generator originally has been designed for the pipe organ. It has a feature though that sounds incredible, that is having the entire Rodgers samples available to the organist on one console. I am assuming that all the stops can be available at the same time. Since it has its own generating system, it does not have the limitations of the midi. I've learned that polyphony, for instance, is an issue if both A and B are activated on both manuals and pedals at the same time. Would having this technology available for digital organs as well be possible and if so, could it be made to be cost effective and user friendly so it could be marketed? Or would a "midi box" like the MX200 with all 500 samples available be a better option?

I am dreaming of what all I could do if I had a dedicated palette number for every stop on our organ dedicated to just this generator with each of the stops having a code and I could on this "dedicated" palette stop put any stop I wanted on every stop tab or drawknob. Not only that but the pistons would be able to save these. So if I so choose I could have 40 ranks of strings playing at one time and set to a piston. Another piston might have nothing but French stops or English, etc. On the swell, there might be a reed chorus using all the stop tabs.

With proper voicing and appropriate use of these stops, such an organ would be second to none. With extensive use of multiple channels, some 20 or 30 channels, the 928 would be an organ that would and should dazzle any crowd.

What would be the cost of such a set up? If a buyer had enough money, does Rodgers have the technology to do this today. Is there really anything about a digital that would technologically prevent a DSG-108 being added to a Rodgers digital organ, particularly the Masterpiece series.

DSG-108

Hi Robert,

Dreams are wonderful to have but I need to correct some of your assumptions. The DSG-108 was conceived and designed to be used with pipe organs exclusively. The only way to connect to Masterpiece would be via MIDI and the DSG has no provision for that. A DSG is actually a Masterpiece organ without the keys or case. Polyphony and generator capacity have nothing to do with MIDI but rather the number of DVMs (Digital Voice Modules) and voice allocation to each DVM. One DSG comes with one DVM and a second DVM (optional). The stop capability of this configuration would be 32 voices max. The cost of a DSG includes the first 10 stops with others added at addtional cost on a per stop basis. To get all 500 voices you would have to chain about 15 DSGs together and you'd be knocking on retail price door of around $400,000. All-in-all not a bad deal, however, if you use the last APOBA estimate of $20,000 per rank. 500 pipe ranks would put you at the $10 million retail price door.

Roy

NewQuestion on 928

I"m having trouble with my 928 Rodgers. The English Horn and voice pallete Orchestral Oboe, Chimes and the Festival trumpet all are very distorted when coming through rear speakers. The rear speakers are driven by S200B amp separately. I thought the speakers might be blown so switched the front speakers with the rear speakers and still had the same problem. The polarity is correct. If I just play a single note on the Orchestral Oboe or Festival trumpet or English Horn they sound fine. With multiple notes there is distortion and the chimes don't sound good with a single note. Through the earphones everything sounds like it should and did when I first got the organ 20 months ago. Any other suggestions to try since the dealer is not located in my town. Leslie G Pool

Contests

There are many young organist 10 - 20 years of age and have only dreamed of recieving a free Rodgers Organ!! I think it would be an awesome thing to hold a contest so each contestant could send in a video of them playing a organ and Rodgers would judge the contest and give away a FREE two- manual organ of the winners choice!!

Contests

Thanks for the suggestion. We are constantly trying to attract youg organists to Rodgers organs. It will certainly be considered.

Trillium organs

I have recently found a church in Asia that has two new Trillium organs. A 4 manual 1058 and a 3 manual 958. As someone who has played pipe organs for many years, I am amazed at the quality of the sound of these organs. I can't say anything except that I am amazed.

I have a few questions and to be honest I don't know how to find the answers - who do I talk to in Asia?

1 The 4 manual 1058 is very different from the 3 manual 958. For example, the solo Festival Trumpet has a very different sound to the same stop on the 958. Shouldn't they have the same sound qualities?

2 On the 4 manual 1058, the pedal stops and the solo stops sound half a beat after the rest of the organ. It is impossible to play Bach because the pedals just don't respond quickly enough. It is also impossible to play music that uses the solo Festival Trumpet or Tuba Major because the solo is always half a beat behind. On the 3 manual 958 these problems do not exist. Are these problems with the 1058 'major' or relatively 'easy' to fix?

3 The organist of the church is relatively new and does not have User Manuals for either of these organs. Are these User Manuals available anywhere as Pdf files?

4 I have read about 'Organ Designer Software'. Is this available for organists, so that they can 'fine tune' the finishing and voicing of their organs?

Having spent over four hours yesterday evening playing and listening to these organs, I would recommend Rodgers organs to any church who is thinking of buying a new organ.

Thank you,

Martin

Rodgers 940 antiphonal

Hi,

Just wondering if the Rodgers 940 had the capability of playing only a certain division (or divisions) through the antiphonal speakers. Its been a while since I played one, and will be playing a church with one in the near future. As I recall there was only one tab to turn the antiphonal on and the main off. If it has the capability, can someone tell me how to make it work?

Just wondering because I will be playing some music where an echo effect is desired.

Thanks in advance...

Great question - I'd like to know this too

Good question, I also would like to be able to have one manual play from the antiphonals while the other's play from the main. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Ken

The answer

Hi Ken,

The hardware confiruration does not make this possible. The entire organ is designed to be played through the main only, antiphonal only or the main and antiphonal.

Cameron's Concert in Missouri

I'm wondering the correct date of Cameron Carpenter's concert in St. Joe, Missouri. Your website says May, but others say in March. I'd like to attend.

Cameron Carpenter concert

Sorry for the confusion. The lastest posting has the correct date and time of March 13th at 7:30 PM. Ticket information is also available as well.

940 Antiphonal

Hi Chris,

The 940 antiphonal does not have stop mapping. All voices play through both the main and antiphonal. There are two controls, MAIN OFF and ANT ON. When ANT ON is activated all selected stops will play through the antipnonal. MAIN OFF silences the main speakers. For your desired echo effect you would need to acitve BOTH controls to hear antiphonal only and deactivate BOTH controls to hear only the main speakers.

sequencers

Are there any sequencers out there from rodgers/roland/???? currently in production that will work without much "fuss" on Rodgers organs??
Thanks!!!

Help please

We have a Rodgers Alexandria that was purchased in the mid 1980's. Our sanctuary is small and the acoustics are excellent. This organ just seems to be way too much for the size of the room. Most of us in the church would like to replace it with something more appropriately sized to the room. Any suggestions or recommendations that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. If we were to sell this organ, could someone give us an idea of what we should expect to get for it or where we should advertise it? Are there modifications that could be made to it that would allow us to use it more fully?

Help

Hi David,

I would suggest an onsite appraisal of both the organ and your sanctuary. The best resource would be your local Rodgers dealer. Click on the "RODGERS DEALER NEAREST YOU" to get the name and phone contact information. Let me know if you need anything else.

Insignia 548 and pipe interface

Can the Insignia 548 be interfaced with pipes? If yes, is the interface done in the conventional way--i.e., using the regular pipe-driver system? And would the Insignia interface include automatic pipe-tuning?

As I recall, the earlier Insignia and Allegiant pipe interface was done via the MIDI system, and auto-tuning was not supported. Does Rodgers use MIDI interfacing at all these days?
Many thanks for replies!

548 and pipe interface

Hi Karen,

The Insignia 548 is not designed to be interfaced with pipes. The new Allegiant 8 platform (658, 678, 688 and 698) can be interfaced with pipes via the pipe-driver system including automatic tuning. We no longer use MIDI interfacing.

sample 'codes'

Karen Keene

For the Insignia 548 and the new two-manual Allegiants, I'd like to have the codes that identify the sample "pedigrees"--i.e., FAMILY/STYLE/SERIES/OCCURRENCE, as in (for example) PRERS1.

Are these codes available? If yes, how can I get them?

Thanks very much,
KK

Demo CDs for Insignia 548 and Allegiant 658/678

Karen Keene

Have demo recordings been made for the Insignia 548 and/or the new [658/678] Allegiants? I'm hoping to get my ears on both of these instruments, but there are no installations nearby. A demo CD would be my next best bet. (I've found Michael Matthes' demo of the 538 on YouTube. Alas, my computer audio ain't adequate!) Thanks!

Demo CDs

Hi Karen,

Demo CDs are in the works for the new Insignia and new Allegiant series. The current schedule is for the release of the Insignia CD at the end of February. The Allegiant CD is scheduled for release at the end of March. When they are available an announcement will be posted on the website.

Electronic Vs. Regular

Hey Roy,

I was wondering if you could stratch for me the differences between an electric organ to a regular one.

Another question, is if i buy an electric organ, is there a possible way for me to connect it to my Nissan-300ZX?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Is there a way that I can import a recording from the PR-300 into Finale? I would like to make a hard copy of my improvisations. I could not open any of the files from the floppy in Finale. I know enough to be dangerous, but am not a computer guru!
Thanks,

Electronic Vs. Regular

Hi Chezi

Your inquiry to define "the differences between an electric organ and a regular one" would need some clarification. I'd need to know to what instrument you're referring when you use the term "regular one." Connecting an electric organ to your Nissan-300ZX would also need clarification. Connect what? And for what purpose?

Best regards,

Roy
