Production/Assembly Specialist

Rodgers Instruments, based in Hillsboro, OR, manufactures and sells its musical instruments worldwide. We are searching for a full-time on-site person to join our Production team immediately. Experience building musical instruments is not required, but skill and aptitude in operating a variety of hand tools is necessary. A good work ethic, reliable character, willingness to be trained, and friendly personality will fit in just right with us!

Job Description

  • Use hand and power tools to assemble a variety of items
  • Follow processes to assemble components into musical organs
  • Work under the direction of the department Manager
  • Collaborate with other Production team members for an efficient workflow
  • Read, understand, and follow written and verbal processes and directions
  • Perform duties with high attention to detail and quality
  • Maintain and follow all safety measures

Qualifications

  • Use of basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, cutters
  • Basic assembly skills using battery powered drivers, Dremel and drills
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, etc.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and instructions
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new things
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Willingness to work as part of the team, but also to work and think independently
  • Flexibility to do different tasks with short notice as priorities change
  • Self-motivated and energetic to complete projects
  • Complete all work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Punctual and reliable attendance

The Art of the Role

We are seeking a Cabinetry Quality & Refinement Specialist to join our team and help ensure the flawless execution of our world-class musical organs. In this role, you will serve as a final gatekeeper of excellence, performing meticulous inspections, precision woodworking, and expert color matching to meet our high standards. If you enjoy hands-on craftsmanship, problem solving, and working with high-quality wood materials, this is an excellent opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Aesthetic & Structural Inspection: Evaluate incoming wooden components for defects such as cracks, chips, warping, or finish inconsistencies.
  • Precision Restoration: Perform repairs using professional sanding, filling, gluing, and structural clamping techniques.
  • Cabinetry Assembly: Assemble custom cabinetry components with precision, following detailed drawings, measurements, and shop specifications.
  • Masterful Color Matching: Blend stains, finishes, and textures to create a seamless transition with original surfaces.
  • Technical Fabrication: Safely use a range of hand tools and power equipment, including chisels, planes, routers, sanders, and saws, to refine parts.
  • International Collaboration: Complete detailed inspection reports and collaborate onsite with production and assembly teams.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain accurate inventory and repair records while keeping a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Artisan Qualifications

  • Proven Experience: Previous experience in woodworking, carpentry, cabinet repair, or furniture restoration is required.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of wood types, adhesives, finishes, and advanced repair techniques.
  • Refinement Skills: Exceptional ability to identify subtle defects and determine the most appropriate restoration methods.
  • Color Expertise: Demonstrated ability to color match stains and finishes.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods while maintaining high craftsmanship standards.
  • Professional Integrity: Reliable, self-motivated, and possessing strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Enhancements

  • Experience in high-end woodworking, musical instrument repair, or millwork.
  • Knowledge of CNC-cut parts or production woodworking environments.
  • Formal training in woodworking, carpentry, or a related field.
