MONTHLY MUSICAL OFFERING: DIADEMATA
Final Verse Reharmonization for Easter: “Diademata”
In preparation for Easter, Rodgers presents a final verse reharmonization composed by our very own Stacy Piontek.
The tune Diademata is usually associated with the text “Crown Him with many crowns” and is traditionally heard in the Easter season. Stacy’s interpretation is perfect for use as a conclusion to an Easter Sunday service, for a springtime hymn sing event, or as a creative way to include instrumentalists in your service.
Sheet music for the tune Diademata in the same key as the reharmonization is included, along with the text for four verses. Here are some pointers for incorporating this music:
Performance Pointers
- The reharmonization does not always play the melody, so you will need to plan for a cantor, worship leader, instrumentalist, or choir to carry the melody for that verse.
- Create variety between the verses. Use different registrations on the organ or have the instrumentalist(s) play parts or a harmonic line for a verse. Suspensions in cadential chords and altering the rhythm of the melody can add excitement and interest.
- A full organ registration is needed for this festival piece, but it is important not to overpower the melody, especially in the final verse.
Bonus Tip
Rodgers organs contain a library of orchestral voices in addition to the normal organ voices. Consider incorporating these into your organ arrangements if you are unable to have live instrumentalists for special occasions. This recording uses a brass choir containing a Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba — perfect for a stately and upbeat Easter finale.
