Handel’s thirteenth opera, Floridante, was first performed in 1721 at the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket, London. It was a success with audiences, being revived by Handel in several subsequent seasons. Floridante showcases Handel’s mastery of the genre and his ability to create complex and emotionally charged music. The opera tells the story of love, betrayal, and redemption, with a plot that is both intricate and compelling. This March opens Scene II of the opera’s Act One. It was originally scored for two trumpets, oboe, 1st and 2nd violin, viola, and bass.
Handel, a German-born composer, spent much of his career in England. He was highly regarded for his operas, oratorios, and instrumental compositions. Handel’s career spanned several decades, during which he composed numerous operas that were performed in London’s theaters.
